This is a typeface I randomly decided to create. So far I’ve only really worked on it in pencil/ink, but I think I’m going to download Typetool and actually create a type face with this. I’m open to ideas/suggestion with this. I’ve never created a typeface and I think this would be a fairly creative yet simple one to start with.

Boston! What a great city. (Click here for the full photoset on Flickr)

Day 1 | We drove 13.5 hours out there, which went by surprisingly fast. We got to our hotel around midnight only to find out the room I reserved wasn’t available, so we wheeled some cots into a smaller room. It’s all good though bc I called Travelocity and I should be getting a full refund for that and got our correct room for the remainder of the trip. But we went to a bar in that town right at last call and we met and older couple with a thick Boston accent and got some tips and tricks for places to go and where to get some cheap beers. They were wicked awesome.

Day 2 |We woke up and went to a bar/grill called Herbies in Worcester where we were able to get a delicious $5 fish sandwich and $2 (22oz) beers. Then we headed to the show. Hung out all day at The Palladium watching tons of bands. Some good ones, some bad ones. Grab some Unos for dinner, then back to the show for Oceano, All Shall Perish, The Acacia Strain and my personal favorite for the whole weekend: The Black Dahlia Murder. As usual, they did amazing. So much fun.

Day 3 | We got our asses up at 8:30 to grab breakfast and get to the Sam Adam’s Brewery by 10 for a tour. Got there at a perfect time to jump on a tour right away. They took us around the place. Talking about the ingredients and the process. Then they led us into a little room that was set up like a bar and we got to taste 3 of their brews. Best part: Everything was free! We even got to keep our testing glasses. So we had a decent buzz going before noon. haha. Next we drove into downtown and parked under one of the parks. Then we went to the original Cheers bar. So cool! I paid a little extra to keep my mug. Then we walked out past the parks and took a stroll down Newbury street. I loved this street because structurally speaking it was really cool, but mostly because Johnny Cupcakes was on this street! It was a very cool experience, but they didn’t have my size for the shirt I wanted to buy. :/ Oh well. So we travel back through the parks and the big buildings to end up at the harbor. We sat down hanging our feet over the edge looking out at the water. Then we headed back to a market nearby and grabbed a couple beers at this little bar to watch some of the Brewins game. Checked out a few more sights around the city then jumped back into the car and headed to Harvard University. (We had to. lol) Stopped in a little Irish pub in Harvard Square and enjoyed the night.

Day 4 | This was the final day for the show. The big names include Stick to Your Guns, Texas in July, Emmure, Vanna, Everytime I Die, and Killswitch Engage (headlining). It was good day and there’s very few metal shows like the one that KSE puts on. (check out my last blog post for video) Great way to end a fun trip.

Day 5 | Drive home. It took a little longer but we did get to swoop down through Manhattan and got some decent views of NYC. But then we got into Pennsylvania and it was a crazy snow storm! Then cleared up completely in Ohio. Strange. Made it home safe and sound. Didn’t blow too much money and had an awesome time with my bros. I’d go back to Boston in a heartbeat.

Next? Las Vegas baby! | Sunday night my flight leaves for Las Vegas! I’m so excited to head out there to get some cool pictures and have some crazy nights. I’m not loaded with money, but I should have enough to have fun. You bet your ass I’ll be making a blog post about it when its all over. ;)

This is the first show Killswitch Engage did with Jesse Leach singing again at New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. April 22nd, 2012. Unfortunately the security guards made me stop recording part of the way through.

Haven’t posted in a while, so I’m going to do a well-rounded life update! Most recently, Ryann and I bought some stuff to install a stereo in my mom’s greenhouse for her birthday. I just put it up the other night, and I’m actually really happy with how it sounds. I used this amp that I got at work, and its really cool because it’s basically a car stereo that can plug into a regular 120V outlet. So, that stereo plus these speakers made for a pretty rockin greenhouse.

The weather has been getting warmer and so the bikes come out more and I’m so excited. I’ve already been on a couple little bike rides around Dayton and I’m more pumped than ever to go riding more this summer. The picture above is my main dude Matt D riding across a bridge on riverside in Dayton.

Since we’re on the topic of the awesome weather, Ryann and I went up to her home town over Easter weekend and had an awesome day taking her little brother’s dog out for a walk. It felt so good to get up for a couple hours and walk around the town and stop through some parks. Very relaxing. The next day I was able to finish the 2nd book of the Walking Dead, and it’s awesome! As cliche as it is to say, I really think I’m enjoying the book more than the show. I will never stop watching the show, but it needs to pick up on the action for next season!

When we got home from that, I got 4 free tickets to the Dragon’s game so I took Ryann and my parents as a present to my mom for missing her birthday. It was COLD that night though. But the beers at Trolley Stop afterwards made up for that! haha. I also bought Ryann and I some Threadless goodies. My shirt is pictured above and here is the one I got for Ryann

Finally, I’m very excited to announce that Atomic Interactive won the “App it Out” contest and their web app “Slickplan” is taking them to Las Vegas for the next level in the competition, April 29th - May 2nd. As luck would have it, Ryann has been invited to go, and I was also invited to tag along. I just have to take care of my own plane tickets. Thanks to Ryann’s Southwest points - I only had to pay $10 for my tickets! So we will be spending our 2-year anniversary in Las Vegas!

Oh, and did I mention that I’m leaving for a 3-day trip to Boston tomorrow too? Needless to say these next couple weeks are about to be cray. And this year will definitely be one for the record books.

My first email blast ever! The EDU department needed to send one out, and our regular email guy was too busy, so they delegated the work to me. It’s hard to believe that I’ve never done one, but I’ve been doing print work for the past two years and just never got an opportunity. I got to say, I really had a good time building these graphics. I miss working in the “one pixel is the smallest unit” environment. It’s somewhat refreshing. Plus, I got to slice it, export the html, and work with our developer to get it all finished up and sent out. I guess that’s the “engineer” side of my brain coming out. I’ve got my fingers crossed that some more web work will head my way, but for now, this was some decent practice and really enjoyable. (PS - this is only posted as artwork. I got my new Apple Mac-Mini yesterday! It’s really nice and before you freak out on me for buying it, I’ve got 8 Gbs of RAM on order for it :) But you can make fun of me for this: I did not realize, until I had it in my hands, that there is no disk (CD) drive… ugh. I love Apple products but they really need to stop leaving out the disk drives! It’s just too soon, in my opinion. What if my OS crashes? I don’t have a CD (or a drive) to reboot/re install. I guess I’ll just go buy a separate one. But besides that I absolutely love it. It’s running OS X Lion too, which I like way more than I thought I would. I will keep my laptop for personal stuff (like music, movies, and whatnot) but I would like to have the Mini be used for just work. It’s much easier said than done, I know, but those are my intentions. lol. So I backed up my laptop and totally wiped it. So I got a fresh start on everything!

A little Photoshop magic I did for work. It’s the little victories that make it worth while. :)

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Johnny Cupcakes? Because I really do. Like really. So this is one of the many reasons I’m so excited to be heading out to Boston next month. The main reason we are going is for The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival (which is going to be super amazing) but we will be skipping the show on Saturday and heading into Boston to hang out for the day. So one of the sites that I MUST go to is the Johnny Cupcakes shop in Boston. I better start up my research now for some other “must see” or “must do” things in Boston.

Very inspiring. Really makes you think about how to approach artwork.
